AMUSE THE SHEEP
If you want to be filthy and
rich
And
indulge without limit or shame
You’ve got to round up a herd
And find a way to entertain.
They worship your courage
And pay
through their nose
Because their mind is naked
Until they wear your clothes.
Whether you sing or dance
Or act like you care
Your feelings are rehearsed
For what
the market will bear.
Forget the highbrows
They’ll slaughter your craft
You want the starving masses
Grazing for a laugh.
The throngs range each day
Huddled and asleep
Be a shepherd and wake them
It’s your kingdom if you amuse the sheep.
